OK serotyping pools

Initial preliminary identification of E. coli most commonly associated with neonatal diarrhea in pigs and calves, and postweaning diarrhea in pigs may be carried out using the E. coli serotyping pools 1N and 2N.

Pool 1N is for detection by slide agglutination of E. coli serogroups most commonly associated with neonatal diarrhea in pigs and calves.

Pool 2N is for detection by slide agglutination of E. coli serogroups most commonly associated with diarrhea in older and postweaning pigs and with edema disease in pigs.

Adhesin serotyping pools

F4 (K88) and F5 (K99) antisera are for detection by slide agglutination of E. coli producing the fimbrial adhesins most commonly associated with diarrhea in pigs and calves, respectively. F6 (987P) and F41 antisera are for identification by immunofluorescence of E. coli producing these adhesins. It should be noted that appropriate culture conditions for the expression of these fimbriae must be used.
